When Students are Enthralled: Project-Based Learning at Springwell

Can you remember the last time you were enthralled? Was it at work? At school? Or a passion project? To be enthralled is when something has captured your fascinated attention.

At Springwell, to fascinate and enthrall is our intention when we give wide open space for student interests to drive their learning.

What happens when you give students the reigns to their own learning?

Does learning accelerate? You betcha! See below documentation of our students’ latest enthrallments. Students have been studying early economies this session. Our classrooms came to life with booming classroom economy projects that took off from student interests.

These student-initiated projects included:

  • creating storefronts

  • producing hand-made merchandise

  • hiring employees

  • recording purchase and sale transactions

  • job interviews; and

  • taking on classroom roles to earn “Springbucks”

It all came together in a harmonious classroom economy exchange of goods, services, learning and smiles!

Through this student-driven project, our classes learned world history, social studies, math, negotiation, practical life, being in community, and entrepreneurship. Most importantly, they took their ideas from ideation to execution in complete enthrallment and fascination.

Now that’s learning the Springwell Way!
