Montessori. Waldorf. Reggio Emilia. Do We Really Have To Choose?
As I was looking for schools for my own children, I was inspired by all the progressive approaches to education available in the world. There was:
Montessori with its independence, respect for children's autonomy, and time-tested materials,
Waldorf education with a deep connection to natural cycles and rhythms, emphasis on the teacher-child relationship, and natural development of creative capacities, and
Reggio Emilia which honors collaboration, and an arts-based, emergent curriculum that adapts to student interests.
As I fell in love with these philosophies and approaches and went on my dizzying quest to compare them, I wondered:
Did I really have to choose between these models?
At Springwell, you don't have to choose.
Our curriculum incorporates all three approaches. We balance whole group and individual student-led learning activities, with carefully trained staff who engage students in learning activities, then observe, document, reflect, and plan new ways for students to explore their developing understandings on a daily basis.
